About The Pittsburgh Penguins Playoffs

The Pittsburgh Penguins lost the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals in six games to the Detroit Red Wings.

The Penguins were shutout in the first two games.  For the entire series they were outscored 14-8.

The Penguins returned to the NHL Playoffs in 2009.  They defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in six, the Washington Capitals in seven, and then swept the Carolina Hurricanes to once again set up a finals showdown with the Red Wings.

It may have been a different year, and a different postseason tournament, but the same thing happened.   The Penguins dropped the first two games of hockey’s ultimate playoff series.

At least they managed to score this time.  They notched one goal in each of the first two contests.

The Pens roared back to win Games 3 and 4.   They won each game by the same score of 4-2.

Game 5 went to the Red Wings as they blanked the Penguins, 5-0.

One again, the Pittsburgh won back-to-back playoff games with identical scores.  This time the score was 2-1.

With the series victory the Penguins won their third championship crown.  The victory also made their captain, Sidney Crosby, the youngest captain to hoist the Stanley Cup since 1895.

Crosby was 21 years and 2 months when his team thwarted elimination and defeated the Red Wings in Game 7.

The Pens won their first NHL titles in 1991 and 1992.

Consol Energy Center is home to all Penguins home postseason games.  The hockey venue seats more than 18,000.
