About The Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975. The team of this era was affectionately dubbed "The Broad Street Bullies" for their rough style of play and the fact that their home arena was (and still is) located on "Broad Street." The team featured the likes of Bobby Clarke, Barry Ashbee, Bill Barber Dave Schultz, and Bernie Parent. During their two championship seasons, Parent won two Conn Smythe trophies (playoff MVP), Clarke won an MVP award (he finished his career with three) and Schultz set the NHL record for the most penalty minutes in a single season (472).

In 1974, the Flyers downed the Bruins in six games to become the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup (the franchise joined the league during the NHL expansion of 1967). The Flyers repeated as champions the following year by dispatching the Buffalo Sabres in six games.

The Flyers are one of the NHL's most successful teams. As of 2010, they have the second best winning percentage (.576) in the league. They also have the most conference final appearances and the most playoff appearances of any expansion team. In the 1979-1980 season, the Flyers lost the first two games on their schedule and then didn't lose again for another three months. In doing so, the Flyers established an NHL record of 35 games without a loss (25-0-10). The Flyers reached their eighth Stanley Cup Finals in 2010 but were defeated by the Chicago Blackhawks in six games.

Flyers tickets are sold to the Wells Fargo Center located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to the Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers played at the Philadelphia Spectrum from 1967 to 1996. The Flyers are aligned in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. Their biggest rivals are the New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils and Pittsburgh Penguins.
