About The Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes captured their first Stanley Cup title at the end of the 2005-2006 season. They defeated the Edmonton Oilers in an exciting seven-game series.

The series was the first time two former WHL teams played one another in NHL’s ultimate tilt. Overall, it was the Hurricanes second trip to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The franchise was founded in 1971 in Hartford, Connecticut. They played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) as the New England Whalers.

The club joined the NHL in 1979 when the two leagues merged. That’s when they changed their name to the Hartford Whalers.

In 1997, the franchise relocated to North Carolina. Their move prompted another name change. This time to the “Carolina Hurricanes.”

The Canes are aligned in the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. They play their home games at PNC Arena.

Hall of Famers Ron Francis played for the Hurricanes for 15 years. He was with the franchise in Harford and Carolina. Other prominent Hurricanes include Ron Brind’Amour, Eric Staal, Kevin Dineen, and Cam Ward.
