About The Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are an NFC South NFL team that play their home games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.  They are an expansion team that joined the league in 1965 and finally qualified for the NFL postseason in 1978.

Their first playoff game looked like it was going to be a disaster as their opponents, the Philadelphia Eagles, took a 13-0 lead late into the fourth quarter.

The Falcons came roaring back thanks to two touchdown passes from quarterback Steve Bartkowski.  The Falcons defeated the Eagles, 14-13, to advance the divisional round.

In the divisional round, the Falcons failed to mount a rally and succumbed to the Dallas Cowboys, 27-20.  Atlanta returned to the NFL Playoffs in 1980 and again in 1982.

In the 1998 NFL Playoffs, the Falcons eliminated the San Francisco 49ers, 20-18, to advance to the NFC Championship Game.  There, they held on to defeat the Minnesota Vikings, 30-27, in overtime.

With the victory, the Falcons advanced to their first Super Bowl (XXXIII).  Their championship hopes were dashed by the Denver Broncos, 34-19.

In the 2002 NFL postseason, the Falcons shocked the world, or at least Wisconsin, by handing the Green Bay Packers their first ever playoff loss at Lambeau Field.  “The Dirty Birds” defeated the Packers, 27-7. They are headquartered and practice in in Flowery Branch, Georgia.
