About The Los Angeles Clippers Playoffs

The Los Angeles Clippers best postseason run didn’t end in them winning the finals.  It resulted in the franchise getting rid of their owner.

On April 25, 2014, during the NBA Playoffs, an audio recording was released that contained owner Donald Sterling talking about the fact that he didn’t want African Americans coming to Clippers game.

Sterling’s racist remarks caused public outrage, forced many sponsors to end their relationship with the franchise, and put the players in a very awkward position—they even considering boycotting a 2014 NBA Playoff game.

The NBA acted swiftly and severely.

On April 29, 2014, Sterling received a lifetime ban from the NBA.  Not only did Sterling have a history of racist behavior, but he was widely considered one of the worst owners in professional sports.

Here’s why…

Sterling bought the team in 1981.  At the time, the Clippers had missed the NBA Playoffs for five consecutive years.

With Sterling as owner, that streak extended to 15 seasons.

After reaching the NBA’s post-season tournament in 1992 and 1993, the Clippers reached the playoffs just twice in the next 18 years (1997 and 2006).

During the 33 seasons Sterling owned the Clippers, the team reached the postseason seven times and won just two playoff series.

The Clippers won the Pacific Division crown in 2013 and 2014.
That’s it in terms of hardware.

They’ve never won an NBA title or even had a showdown in the finals.

The Los Angeles Clippers play all their post-season games at Staples Center.  They share the venue with the Los Angeles Lakers.
