About The Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee Bucks played their first game in 1968. In 1971, the team won the NBA Championship (as of 2010 it's their only championship). How did an NBA expansion team get so good so fast? As a result of winning just 26 games during their inaugural season the Bucks received the first pick in the 1969 NBA draft. They used it to select Lew Alcindor of UCLA, known today as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Bucks second season saw the team win 56 games—one of the best reversal of fortunes the NBA has ever seen. That offseason the Bucks were able to acquire legend Oscar Robertson.
With Abdul-Jabbar and Robertson, the Bucks finished their third season with a record of 66-16. After waltzing through the playoffs, the Bucks swept the Baltimore Bullets to win the franchise's first NBA Championship. The Bucks remained dominate throughout the first half of the 1970s and returned to the finals in 1974 where they lost to the Boston Celtics in seven games. After the 1975 season, Abdul-Jabbar was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers after saying he no longer wanted to play in a small town like Milwaukee.
In 1976, Don Nelson became head coach and soon Bucks tickets were regularly sold to the postseason. Nelson went on to lead the team to the playoffs nine times during his ten full seasons in Milwaukee.
