About The Utah Jazz

The last place you think of when you hear word "jazz" is Utah. However, the franchise known today as the Utah Jazz started in 1974 in New Orleans—the first place you think of when you hear the word "Jazz." The franchise relocated to Utah in 1979 but failed to make the playoffs until 1984. Once they made the playoffs they kept making the playoffs. The Jazz qualified for the postseason every year from 1984 to 2004. Despite all those appearances, the franchise has zero NBA Championships. They won the Western Conference title twice but both times fell to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

The Jazz's second defeat to the Bulls featured a last second shot by Jordan. He hit a jumper over the Jazz's best defender Bryon Russell. Jordan's shot is one of the NBA's most memorable moments and a sore spot for Jazz ticket holders who believe "His Airness" pushed off. The Jazz of this era were led by point guard John Stockton and power forward Karl Malone. They were so good as a set-up man and finisher that the phrase "Stockton to Malone" entered the NBA lexicon.

They are not only hall of famers and dynamic players that sold a lot of Jazz tickets, but Stockton and Malone are arguably two of the best players at their respective positions in the history of the NBA. In 1988, Jerry Sloan took over as Utah's head coach and at the start of the 2010-2011 season he's still there. Sloan is the only coach in NBA history to record 1,000 wins with one team. He also has the longest coaching tenure with one team in NBA History. While he's never won the NBA Coach of the Year award or an NBA Championship, Sloan is still universally respected and admired.

Utah Jazz tickets are sold for the Energy Solutions Arena located in Salt Lake City. The team is aligned in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. The team's main rivals are the Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, and Oklahoma City Thunder. Other memorable Jazz players include Adrian Dantley, Pete Maravich, Jeff Hornacek, Darrell Griffith, and Mark Eaton.
