About The Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers entered the league as the Seattle Pilots. The franchise played one season in the Emerald City and went bankrupt. Future MLB Commissioner Bud Selig purchased the franchise and relocated it to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Brewers were an American League team until 1997 when they jumped to the National League. Now, the Brewers are in the Central Division alongside the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates, and St. Louis Cardinals. Brewers tickets are sold to Miller Park located to the southwest of the intersection of I-94, US-41, and Miller Park Way. The $400 million stadium is named after its title sponsor, Miller Brewing Company. Speaking of the beer, the team was named to honor Milwaukee's rich tradition of brewing.

The franchise's best year was 1982. The team won the American League pennant thanks to a potent offense and solid relief pitching. Nonetheless, they were defeated in the World Series by the St. Louis Cardinals, four games to three. Stars of that year's club were Paul Molitor, Robin Yount, Cecil Cooper, Ben Oglivie, Gorman Thomas, and Rollie Fingers. The team was nicknamed "Harvey's Wallbangers" due to their hitting prowess, their manager Harvey Kuenn, and the fact that the team is named "Brewers" and "Harvey Wallbanger" is an alcoholic beverage. The franchise would not return to the playoffs for 26 years. When they finally did, they were ousted in the NLDS by the eventual World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies.

Through the years the Brewers have accumulated several nicknames: "True Blue Brew Crew," "The Brew Crew," "The Crew," and "The Beermakers." Some of the franchise's most prominent players include Molitor, Yount, Fingers, Hank Aaron, Don Sutton, and Prince Fielder. Of course, the most famous person associated with the Brewers is Mr. Baseball, Bob Uecker. The former catcher and current Brewers radio broadcaster has been with the franchise ever since it moved to Milwaukee. Uecker made a name for himself not only on the diamond, but through his natural comedic talents, his acting, and his various appearances on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
