About The Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies are a Major League Baseball franchise out of Denver, CO. The team was established in 1993 and is part of the West Division of the National League. The team’s home field is Coors Field, located in downtown Denver. The team is named for the beautiful Rocky Mountains, some of which are situated just west of Denver.

For many years, the Colorado Rockies were considered a losing franchise; however, all of that changed in 2007 when the team won a National League pennant for the very first time. It should also be noted, though, that the Rockies and the Florida Marlins are the two teams in baseball to never win a divisional title.

After a rocky start with several different owners embroiled in scandal, the team is currently owned by brothers Charlie and Dick Monfort. Notable team players throughout the abbreviated history of the franchise have included Jason Jennings (who was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1999), Kazuo Matsui, and Matt Holliday, to name a few.

The team has had its share of controversy off of the diamond as well. In 2006, it was reported by USA Today that the Rockies management staff had instituted a decidedly Christian policy in terms of the team’s code of conduct, and all men’s magazines and music with sexually explicit lyrics were prohibited from being brought into the Rockies clubhouse. For the 2007 World Series, the team again found itself in hot water after offering game tickets to the general public solely through an online ticketing site, despite prior arrangements to the contrary.

The Colorado Rockies mascot is a purple triceratops named Dinger. The team colors are black, white, purple and silver.
