Origins
Umphrey’s McGee was founded on the campus of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. The original lineup consisted of guitarist and vocalist Brendan Bayliss, keyboardist Joel Cummins, drummer Mike Mirro, and bassist Ryan Stasik. Percussionist Andy Faraq joined the group in 1998 and guitarist Jake Cinninger in 2002. Mirro left the band in 2002 to go to medical school. He passed away in 2014. Mirro was replaced by Kris Myers.
Discography
The band released their first album, the cheekily named Greatest Hits Vol. III, in 1998. This was more of a demo tape than anything else. Their first proper studio recording is Local Band Does OK. That dropped in 2002. In 2014, Umphrey’s McGee released their eighth studio album, Similar Skin. As you might expect from a band that plays more than 100 concerts a year, Umphrey’s McGee has released 10 official live albums.
