About Richard Marx

Richard Marx’s career started in the mid-1980s. Despite all of his experience, the singer, songwriter, and record producer still sounds great live. He’s still got the pipes. Another thing, at a Richard Marx concert, the legend can entertain with his piano (or his guitar) as easily as he can with a full back up band.

If you’ve never had Richard Marx tickets before, not only will his ability to perform impress you but also his wit and storytelling abilities. He has a great sense of humor and makes him audience feel welcomed and appreciated. What Marx says between "Don't Mean Nothing," “Hazard,” and "Should've Known Better" is almost as entertaining as the songs themselves.

How Much Is Richard Marx Worth?

Richard Marx is worth about $18 million. He earned all that dough thanks to selling more than 30 million albums, writing a bunch of hit songs, and performing all over the world.

Marx holds two major distinctions. We’ll talk about the second distinction in the next section, but his first big accomplishment was having his first seven singles peaked inside the top five of the Billboard Hot 100. Three of those seven singles went all the way to number one.

Marx’s sound is pop but with a huge classic rock influence. Most of hits are ballads.

Who Wrote Richard Marx’s Songs?

Richard Marx wrote, or co-wrote, most of the songs he recorded including his three number ones: “Hold On to The Nights,” “Satisfied,” and “Right Here Waiting.”

Now for that second distinction…

Richard Marx has written/co-written several songs for other artists. This has enabled him to see a song that he wrote/co-wrote top the charts in four different decades.

Marx has collaborated with Luther Vandross, worked with Hugh Jackman, performed with Celine Dion, and toured with Ringo Starr.

How Old Is Richard Marx?

Richard Marx was born Sept. 16, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois. Both his parents are musically inclined. His mother was a singer and his father was a jazz musician and founder of a jingle writing company.

Thanks to his father’s company, Marx began singing professional at the age of five. When Marx was 17, Lionel Richie heard a couple of his songs. Having enjoyed the material, Richie suggested to Marx that he moved to Los Angeles.

Marx took Richie’s advice after graduating from high school. Before hitting it big, Marx sang backup for artists like Richie, Madonna, Barbra Streisand, and Whitney Houston.

Who is Richard Marx Married To?

Richard Marx was married to entertainer Cynthia Rhodes for 25 years. They had three sons. Richard and Cynthia divorced in 2014.

Marx then married Daisy Fuentes. They tied the knot two days before Christmas in 2015.
