Khalid released “Location,” his debut single, in July of 2016. The single stalled at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Location” was written by Khalid and seven other people.
The song has been remixed on numerous occasions. The various remixes feature Lil Wayne, Kehlani, Little Simz, Jorja Smith, and Wretch 32.
Khalid launched a 21-city tour during the first two months of 2017. Then, on March 3, Khalid celebrated the release of his first studio album, American Teen.
American Teen debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 and eventually reached the fourth spot. Before the year was over, the album picked up a platinum certification.
Production was handled by several top artists including The Arcade, DJDS, Gonzalez, Hiko Momoji, OZ, and Syk Sense.
American Teen picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album. His song “Location” also received a nom for Best R&B Song.
In 2017, Khalid performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His song "Angels" can be heard in an episode of Grey's Anatomy and his song “The Ways” was in the blockbuster film Black Panther.
Khalid Donnel Robinson was born on Feb. 11, 1998 in Fort Stewart, Georgia. Due to his mother’s career in the military, Khalid relocated several times as a child. He lived in Kentucky, New York, and Germany.
