Flight of the Conchords is also the name of their Emmy nominated television show that is currently airing on HBO. McKenzie and Clement play themselves, and as Flight of the Conchords the duo tries to find fame and fortune in New York City. Each episode features at least one Flight of the Conchords song.
The Conchords’ 2007 release, “The Distant Future,” won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album. In April of 2009, the duo will release their second full length studio album and embark on a U.S. Tour.
Before they had their own HBO show, the Conchords had an award winning radio show on BBC Radio. Largely improvised, the six episodes aired on BBC Radio 2 in September of 2005.
Originally, McKenzie and Clement were going to do their television show in London, but they found British TV executives too passive. However, their current HBO show is expected to air on British television in 2009.
McKenzie and Clement met at Victoria University of Wellington and formed the band to improve their guitar playing skills.
