Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is held at the Great Stage Park in Manchester, Tennessee. The festival brings together a large number of acts from a wide variety of genres. Bonnaroo has welcomed everyone from former Beatles to hip hop artists to alternative music bands to Phish.
The annual festival debuted in 2002 and quickly became one of the most popular in the nation. Bonnaroo usually begins on the second Thursday in June.
Besides its multiple stages for musicians, the festival also has dancing, silent disco, cinema, art galleries, environmental speakers, interactive entertainment, and a Christmas in June celebration. Attendees should also prepare to laugh; Bonnaroo frequently welcomes the funniest comics to its comedy theatre.
You’ll find plenty of food and beverage vendors at Bonnaroo—some of them even serve meat. Don’t forget to check out the Planet Roo Café. It’s 100 percent waste free. Their menu offers healthy and organic dishes.
Since Bonnaroo last four days, and is 65 miles southeast of Nashville, your best bet for accommodations is on-site camping. Organizers offer a variety of options from tents to RV rentals. If you drive there, you should probably know that organizers want you to keep your car parked for all four days of the festivals. Getting in and out is not easy nor is it quick.
Attending Bonnaroo is a major undertaking. It’s not like seeing a movie after a day of shopping at the mall. To attend what organizers call “four of the best days ever,” you’ll need more than Bonnaroo tickets. You’ll need to be prepared.
First of all, you’ll be outside, in the summer, in Tennessee. So make sure you have water, sunblock, raingear, and other accoutrements to protect yourself from the elements. There are two general stores on-site but you should still bring enough food for everyone in your party for four days.
Organizers also ask that you play as a team, be positive, respect the venue, and don’t be “that guy/girl” who ruins it for everyone else. They want you to recycle, commit random acts of kindness, and most of all, look out for other festival-goers regardless if you know them or not.
Their Web site calls what has been mentioned in the previous paragraphs as the “Bonnaroovian Code.” Adhering to it means everyone will have a great time at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.
