Big Time Rush is a boy band. They were created in 2009 to star in their own television show on Nickelodeon (also called Big Time Rush). They band consists of Logan Henderson, James Maslow, Kendall Schmidt, and Carlos Pena, Jr. Their television show ended in 2013.
The show was about four teenagers from Minnesota who go to Los Angeles to be in a boy band. No one in the band is actually from Minnesota.
Since the band was created at the same time as their television show, Big Time Rush has the distinction of signing a record deal before they even started playing music together. Their television show debuted in November of 2009 and their first real single dropped in 2010. The theme song to their program was released in 2009 and can be found on their first album, BTR.
If you’re keeping score at home, there’s a band, a television show, and a song named “Big Time Rush.” Their first album was called BTR, which is also the band’s nickname.
The group’s first album dropped on Oct. 11, 2010. It debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and eventually earned a Gold certification from the RIAA. That was followed by Elevate in 2011, which peaked at number 12. The group’s third record, 24/Seven, hit the streets on June 11, 2013. It went all the way to number four.
The group’s highest charting single is “Boyfriend (featuring Snoop Dogg).” The song stalled at 72 on Billboard’s Hot 100. In the same year, the group released “Music Sounds Better with U (featuring Mann).” The song was produced by Ryan Tedder and was the first single from the album Elevate.
Big Time Rush hit the big screen in 2012 with Big Time Movie. Well, it wasn’t really the big screen as the film debuted on Nickelodeon. The movie was set in London and its soundtrack contained six Beatles covers. Critics’ responses to the movie were lukewarm but fans loved it. It attracted thirteen million views in a week.
Big Time Rush tickets have been collected during a number of outings. From 2011 to 2014, the group launched six concert tours. One of those treks, “Better with U Tour,” featured One Direction as openers.Big Time Rush is a boy band in the tradition of The Monkees. Both groups were cast to be in a band and a television show. The Monkees differ in that they also appealed to adults, and were part of, at least tangentially, the counterculture of the 1960s. BTR’s audience is mainly teens and they’re not subversive even by Nickelodeon standards.
Big Time Rush is often compared to One Direction but 1D was put together by Simon Cowell after auditioning for “The X Factor” and they never had their own television show.
In 2012, a Parade Magazine poll voted Big Time Rush as the “Best Boy Band in the World.”
