About America - The Band

America’s Gerry Beckley says of the band’s songs: “they’re not oldies but they are classic rock. There is a difference but we don’t know what it is.”

We might know the difference. “Old” is stale, impotent, and listless. “Classic rock,” on the other hand, is vibrant, energetic, and relevant.

In many ways, that describes an America concert. The band, which first started in 1970, are no spring chickens, but they still know how rock.

Who Is In America?

The two remaining members of America, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (the third member Dan Peek died in 2011), don’t come out on stage, sit on a couple of bar stools, and just strum their guitars.

Well, they do some of that but that’s not all the do.

Beckley and Bunnell still have the pipes, and still have the harmonies, that made America famous. They are also sure to bring along a tight, back-up band.

Bottom line, an America tour stop is not necessarily about nostalgia. It’s also about great music and fantastic singing.

Furthermore, Beckley and Bunnell frequently speak to the audience between songs. Their banter can be quite clever. Beckley will often tell fans that the following material is from the “I forgot they did that song collection.”

What Songs Will America Perform?

With more than 20 studio and live albums to their name, a concert would have to be six hours long to appease every America ticket holder. Still, the band does a great job of addressing just about every era of their career.

Expect to hear cuts like “Ventura Highway,” “Sister Golden Hair,” “Tin Man,” “You Can Do Magic,” “Riverside,” “California Revisited (Everyone I Meet Is From California),” and “The Last Unicorn.”

Obviously, they end each concert with “A Horse With No Name.”

What’s The Crowd Like At An America Concert?

America brings a lot of energy and excitement to every show. Unfortunately, that energy and excitement is not always contagious.

Every crowd is different but be prepared to use your seat. Sometimes, although not always, the only song that brings the crowd to their feet is “A Horse With No Name.”
