Disney on Ice isn’t the name of a particular show but an umbrella term for any of the mouse’s many ice shows. The first Disney ice show was produced in 1981. Back then the venture was called “Walt Disney’s World on Ice.” In 1998, the name was truncated to “Disney on Ice.” The various Disney on Ice shows are produced by Feld Entertainment and feature characters, music, and plot elements from the company’s various movies. As you’d expect, shows are geared for children especially little girls. Disney on Ice tours the world over with an emphasis on North America and Europe.
At any given time, Disney will have several ice shows on the road. One of Disney on Ice’s current touring productions is the dynamic “Rockin’ Ever After.” The program opened in 2012 and stars characters from Brave, Tangled, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. The show also marks the ice debut of the character “Merida” from the film Brave.
Another current Disney on Ice show is “Let’s Celebrate” (sometimes referred to as “Let’s Party”). Billed as a big party on ice, in this performance Disney characters explore holiday celebrations from around the world. The show stars Mickey, Minnie, Disney villains, and Disney princesses as well as characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Enchanted, and The Princess and The Frog.
Disney on Ice’s longest running show is the timeless “Passport To Adventure.” Here, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Daisy take the audience on a wonderful trip to the worlds of The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, and Lilo & Stitch.
As the name suggests, “Princesses & Heroes” stars Disney’s princesses and princes including Belle, Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, and Tiana. Their stories are retold in an abbreviated form. The show is hosted by Tinker Bell and dazzles fans with lighting effects, lasers, and pyrotechnics.
If you and your family can attend just one Disney on Ice show make sure it’s “100 Years of Magic.” This production stars 65 Disney characters from nearly 20 Disney properties. In addition to Mickey, Minnie, and the ubiquitous Disney princesses, you’ll also be entertained by characters from The Lion King, The Incredibles, and the Toy Story franchise.
