Who is ExtremeCatnip?
A Twitter user by that name is followed by Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and Britney Spears. No one knows the identity of ExtremeCatnip or the reason why he or she is being followed by three world famous singers.
Is ExtremeCatnip the pseudonym of another celebrity? Is it the Twitter alias of a shadowy government agency? Or is it just the cute sobriquet of a lucky Twitter user that still lives in his mother’s basement?
While we can’t identity ExtremeCatnip we can look at six of today’s biggest pop stars to see what they’re like on Twitter. We’ve already mentioned half of our gang of six—Lady Gaga, Bieber, and Spears. Now let’s reveal the other three: Katy Perry, Rihanna, and country singer Taylor Swift.
Of those six, The Biebs follows just about everyone (by “everyone” we mean other celebrities). Justin follows the six aforementioned pop stars as well as Kanye West, Charlie Sheen, and Barack Obama.
On the other end of the spectrum is Lady Gaga. She’s following none of the other pop stars nor is she following celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton. Lady Gaga is the only one of our gang not following the famous gossipmonger.
Of our six pop stars, the two that follow the least amount of Twitter users are Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. However, they are both following the same four celebrities: Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ronan Farrow, and Hayley Williams.
Speaking of those who refuse to follow, rapper Eminem has more than 12 million followers but follows exactly no one. Kanye West has 8.5 million followers but is following just one user, his girlfriend Kim Kardashian. It's likely that artists such as Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart, Sting, Jason Aldean, guitar god Eric Clapton, or The Voice judge and country singer Blake Shelton would love to be in that position.
Which of our six pop stars is likely to follow you back? The answer is Britney Spears. She follows more than two-percent of her Twitter adherents. That may not sound like a lot but the next closest stars, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, follow back less than half a percent.
Of our six pop stars, Bieber Tweets the most. On average, he Tweets a whopping 14 times a day. Rihanna is second with just under six posts a day and Katy Perry is third with 3.35 daily Tweets.
Taylor Swift Tweets the least. She posts a little bit more than once a day. She beats out Lady Gaga and Britney Spears by mere percentage points.
Lady Gaga has been on Twitter the longest while Rihanna is the social networking site’s newest user.
Well, we’re still no closer to finding out the identity of ExtremeCatnip but at least we know what we’re getting into when we follow popular music’s biggest stars.
