About The Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks were founded in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim by The Walt Disney Company. The team was named after a 1992 Disney movie, The Mighty Ducks. Disney also made a carton called the Mighty Ducks. Disney sold the team in 2005 for $75 million. The new owners promised to keep the franchise in Anaheim but changed the team's name to the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks first coach was Ron Wilson and their first draft pick was Paul Kariya. He would go on to be the face of the franchise for years. On Oct. 8, 1993, the Ducks lost their first regular season game to the Detroit Red Wings, 7-2. The franchise's first win came five days later when they defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 4-3. At the end of their first season, the Ducks finished with a respectable 33 wins and 71 points.

The Ducks qualified for the postseason for the first time in 1997. The team reached their first Stanley Cup Finals in 2003. Their opponents were the New Jersey Devils who defeated them in seven games. The 2003 Stanley Cup Finals were notable for having two brothers compete against one another, Ducks forward Rob Niedermayer and Devils defenseman Scott Niedermayer. The Ducks returned to the Finals in 2007 this time with Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger, two of the league's best defensemen, on the roster. The Ducks ousted the Ottawa Senators in five games to become the first California team to ever win the Stanley Cup.

Ducks tickets are sold to the Honda Center located in Anaheim, California situated just east of Disneyland. The team is aligned in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference with the Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Phoenix Coyotes, and San Jose Sharks. Some of the franchise's all-time best players include Kariya, Pronger, Scott Niedermayer, Rob Niedermayer, Teemu Selanne, Steve Rucchin, Ryan Getzlaf, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
