About the FalconsAtlanta Falcons football began in 1966. It took the franchise 13 seasons to reach the playoffs (1978) and then the team qualified for the postseason three out of the next five years. Between 1983 and 1997, the Falcons reached the playoffs just twice. In 1998, fans with Atlanta Falcons tickets saw the team go on an exciting and memorable run to the Super Bowl. Along the way, the Falcons defeated the Minnesota Vikings—who went 15-1 in the regular season—in the NFC Championship game, 30-27 in overtime. Unfortunately for Falcons fans, the team lost Super Bowl XXXIII to the Denver Broncos, 34-19. The Falcons' Super Bowl team was coached by Dan Reeves who had previously coached the Broncos. The "Dirty Birds" as they were known, featured quarterback Chris Chandler and running back Jamal Anderson. In 2001, the team drafted quarterback Michael Vick, one of the most exciting NFL quarterbacks of all-time. In 2007, Vick was sentenced to 21 months in a federal penitentiary for felonies related to dog fighting. Vick was suspended indefinitely from the league prior to the start of the season and eventually cut from the Atlanta Falcons roster. Later in the 2007 season, Falcons rookie head coach Bobby Petrino abruptly resigned to coach a college team. In the wake of a brutally tough year, the Falcons selected quarterback Matt Ryan with the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. With "Matty Ryan" under center, the Falcons posted an 11-5 record and qualified for the playoffs. Falcons tickets are sold to the Georgia Dome which is located in Atlanta between downtown and Vine City. The Atlanta Falcons schedule features two games a year against their South Division foes the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
