"Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion!" Those inspiring words came from Houston Rockets head coach Rudy Tomjanovich in 1995 just moments after his team won their second championship in a row. The 1995 Rockets team was the lowest seeded team (6th) to ever win the title.
The team had one of the most exciting championship runs in the history of the NBA, overcoming both a 2-0 and 3-1 series deficit. The Rockets of this era were led by Akeem Olajuwon, Kenny Smith, and Robert Horry. Hall of famer Clyde Drexler joined the team for the second championship run. Olajuwon had led the Rockets to the finals a decade earlier in 1984. Three years before that, another big man, Moses Malone, also took the Rockets to NBA Finals. Both trips ended with the team losing to the Boston Celtics.
Houston Rockets tickets are sold to the Toyota Center located in city's downtown area. The team is part of the Western Conference and they play in the Southwest Division with their rivals the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs. Some other notable Rockets include Calvin Murphy, Ralph Sampson, Yao Ming, and Tracy McGrady. Another prominent Rocket is the aforementioned Tomjanovich.
