About the Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers are the NBA's redheaded stepchild. They not only play in the same city as the "Showtime" Los Angeles Lakers, but they play in the same venue. Clippers tickets and Lakers tickets are sold for the Staples Center. Furthermore, the Lakers have a tradition of winning while the Clippers are one of the NBA's least successful franchises.

Founded in 1970, in the team's first forty years of existence they posted seven winning seasons, won two playoff series, and lost 50 or more games 26 times. From the 1981-1982 season through the 1990-1991 season, the Clippers win-loss record was 246-574 and not once did they win more than 32 games. Their worst season, and one of the worst all-time, happened in 1986-1987. That's when the Clippers finished 12-70 for a winning percentage of .146. They were 53 games back of the first place Lakers.

The Clippers joined the NBA in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves. They entered the league with the Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers. The franchise moved to San Diego in 1978 and then to Los Angeles in 1984. Upon moving to San Diego the franchise changed its name to the "Clippers." The team finds itself aligned in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The Clippers rivals are the Lakers and Golden State Warriors.

Some of the franchise's all-time great players include Adrian Dantley, Bob McAdoo, and Bill Walton. However, none of those players played in Los Angeles. Other standouts that have played in L.A. include Baron Davis, Blake Griffin, Danny Manning, and Ron Harper. One of the Clippers' most successful coaches was Larry Brown. He took the Clippers to the playoffs in both of his two seasons with the team (1991-1993).
