About The Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves is a professional baseball team located in Atlanta, Georgia. The Braves moniker originated from a Native American word for “warrior.” The Braves are part of the Major League Baseball franchise and are a part of the Eastern Division of the league. Their home field is Turner Field, attributed to the name of their former owner, Ted Turner.

The Braves team was at one time one of the most successful baseball franchises in history. The team is the only one to have won the World Series in three different home cities as both Boston and Milwaukee have served as home to the team. Since the initial debut of the Braves in 1876, the franchise has managed to win 16 division titles, 17 pennants and three World Series championships.

The Braves got its start in Boston in the late 1800s. The team settled in Atlanta in 1966, where, in 1974, Hank Aaron famously broke the standing record of baseball great Babe Ruth for career home runs. This record actually stood until 2007.

The Braves, dubbed “America’s team” got its big break after the purchase of the team by Ted Turner. Turner owned TBS, a national cable channel, and used his influence to broadcast Braves’ baseball games throughout the season. This gave the franchise much-needed notoriety and propelled the team to increased success in terms of recruiting talent. After an almost 30-year run with Ted Turner, the Braves franchise was sold to Liberty Media Group.
