About 'Lil WayneBorn Dwayne Michael Carter, rap phenom Lil Wayne is as well-known for his off-stage antics as his explosive musical career. A charter member of the Cash Money rap group Hot Boys, Wayne has been involved in the music industry since he was a teenager. His debut solo album “Tha Block Is Hot” was released at the age of 17 and went to No. 3 on the Billboard album charts. Since that time, Wayne has released a string of hit albums and singles, including the blockbuster albums “Tha Carter” series, including albums I, II and III. In fact, following the release of “Tha Carter III,” Lil Wayne was nominated for eight Grammy Awards. Wayne frequently collaborates with other musicians outside of his genre, from pop to rock acts. He was quoted in an issue of Blender magazine as saying Nirvana was his favorite band as a child and that the grunge act is a major influence on his music. Wayne has had a number of run-ins with the law, including two arrests for weapons and drugs in 2007 and 2008. These run-ins, however, has only serve to enhance his street cred, reinforcing his devoted hip-hop base. He has appeared on a number of hip-hop collaborations as one of the featured performers. He has also continued to appear on mix tapes from a variety of unknown artists, often helping to propel unknowns to stardom.
