What Genre Is The Used?
The Used call themselves a rock band, but such simplistic titles are never good enough for pundits. Therefore, you’ll see The Used labelled as “punk,” “emo,” and “heavy metal” as well as non-descript terms like “post-hardcore” and “screamo.”
The Used Band: Names Of Members?
The Used consists of vocalist Bert McCracken, bassist Jeph Howard, drummer Dan Whitesides, and guitarist Justin Shekoski.
McCracken and Howard have been with the band from the start. They founded The Used with drummer Branden Steineckert and guitarist Quinn Allman.
Steineckert left in 2006 and Allman in 2015. Whitesides joined in 2007 while Shekoski came aboard the same year as Allman split.
Where Is The Used Band From?
The Used is from Orem, Utah. They formed in January of 2001.
After auditions failed to land a lead singer, Quinn Allman asked Bert McCracken to come aboard. McCracken was given music the other members had written and asked to write lyrics. He returned with what would become the song “Maybe Memories.”
With the help of producer John Feldmann (from the ska band Goldfinger), The Used were signed before the end of 2001. Their self-titled debut album dropped in 2002.
How Did The Used Get Its Name?
The band called themselves “Used” because of their friends. Their friends felt “used” when the band began to immerse themselves into their music.
When they learned that there was another group called “Used” they added “The” to their name.
