Selena Gomez & the Scene is a pop rock band from Hollywood, California. The band was formed in 2008 and is fronted by actress Selena Gomez. The Scene is composed of guitarist Ethan Roberts, bassist Joey Clement, keyboardist Dane Forrest, and drummer Greg Garman. The band released its first album, "Kiss & Tell" in 2009 and its follow up, "A Year Without Rain," in 2010.
To promote their first two releases, the band embarked on several Selena Gomez & the Scene tours. They've also appeared on Dancing with the Stars, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. In 2010, Selena Gomez & the Scene tickets were sold to a performance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Long before fronting the band, Gomez starred in various made-for-movies and the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place." In 2010, Selena Gomez tickets were sold to her theatrical film debut, the kid-friendly "Ramona and Beezus." Her music career started when she covered "Cruella de Vil" for the Disney album "DisneyMania 6" (2008).
Gomez then recorded songs for the movie soundtracks "Tinker Bell" and "Princess Protection Program" as well as for the soundtrack album to her television show, "Wizards of Waverly Place." In 2008, just before her sixteenth birthday, Gomez signed a deal with a record company owned by Disney.
Not wanting to be a solo artist, Gomez formed the Scene in 2008 after an exhaustive audition process. She originally wanted her outfit to be called "The Scene," a way to get back at people who accused her of being a "wannabe scene." Yet, due to contractual obligations with her record label she was forced to adopt the name "Selena Gomez & the Scene."
The Scene's first two albums both peaked inside the top ten and both were certified Gold. Neither album produced a top ten single but the tracks "Naturally" and "A Year Without Rain" went to the top of the U.S. Dance charts. As of mid-2011, the band's highest charting singles are "Round & Round" from "A Year Without Rain" and "Who Says" from their third studio album. Both tracks peaked at #24.
The band's third studio album was released in June of 2011 and featured the track, "Whiplash," written by Britney Spears. To support the release, the band embarked on a string of Selena Gomez & the Scene concerts in late July.
