Odesza is a duo from Seattle, Washington that produces chillwave, electronic, and ambient music. The duo is comprised of Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight.
Mills performs under the nom de plume “Catacombkid” while Knight uses the sobriquet “BeachesBeaches.”
While Odesza has their own unique sound they are reminiscent of Hippie Sabotage, Nomadic Fires, Slow Magic, and Purity Ring.
Musically, they draw inspiration from Radiohead, Blockhead, James Brown, and classic rock.
The duo named themselves after a ship owned by Mills’ uncle. The ship sank and the only survivors were Mills’ uncle and another crew member.
Since there’s already a band named “Odessa,” Mills and Knight change the spelling to “Odesza.”
Mills and Knight met while freshmen at Western Washington University, but they didn’t start making music together until their senior year.
When Mills and Knight started to make music they quickly gelled. Their immense chemistry is amazing when you consider that Mills studied graphic design and Knight studied math and physics.
