About Nickelback

Hailing from Hanna, Alberta, Nickelback's sales of over 30 million records worldwide secures their spot as one of the most successful Canadian bands in history. The band consists of Mike Kroeger, Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, and Daniel Adair, who is the band's third drummer.

Founding member Mike Kroeger once worked at Starbucks and named the band after the frequent verbiage used when returning change to customers, "Here's your nickel back."

The band first came onto the scene in 1996 with the independent releases Hesher and Curb that gained some local attention, but not more.

Two years later, Nickelback followed up with The State. That record caught the ear of EMI and Roadrunner Records who both re-released it in 2000. The album went gold in both Canada and the U.S. eventually claiming platinum status in the U.S. in 2008.

Their major breakthrough came in 2001 with the release of Silver Side Up and its single “How You Remind Me” which made its way to number one in both territories. It also became the Billboard Hot 100 single of the year for 2002.

Keeping the momentum going, 2003 saw The Long Road sell five million copies and enjoy several singles successes. Two years later, All the Right Reasons had all the right moves, selling over 11 million units worldwide and spawning five Top 20 singles, three of which crawled into the Top 10.

Despite much and continued critical negativity over their formulaic work, Nickelback's sixth outing, Dark Horse, saw the light of day in November, 2008 and contributed several hit songs.

Earlier that year, Nickelback joined Madonna, Shakira, and Jay-Z when they signed an all-encompassing, three-cycle deal with Live Nation that includes recordings, touring, merchandise, and other rights worth $50-$70 million. However, the band still has one album left on their contract with Roadrunner Records.
