About My Morning Jacket the BandMy Morning Jacket has made quite a few appearances on television and in films. As of 2010, the Louisville, Kentucky-based band has appeared on Saturday Night Live, Austin City Limits, Conan, Leno, Lettermen, Ferguson and American Dad! The band's filmography includes The Lookout, Elizabethtown, I'm Not There, Stick It, and He's Just Not That Into You. The indie-country-rock-alternative-jam band has been around since 1998. Jim James (vocals, guitars) and Tim Blanekship (bass) have been with the band since the beginning. Drummer Patrick Hallahan joined in 2002, keyboardist Bo Koster and guitarist Carl Broemel came aboard in 2004. Former band members include Johnny Quaid (guitarist), Danny Cash (keyboardist), J. Glenn (drums) and Chris Guetig (drums). My Morning Jacket released its first album, The Tennessee Fire, in 1999. After a few EP's, the band released its first album on a major label, and second overall, At Dawn, in 2001. They followed that up in 2003 with It Still Moves. Their breakthrough album, Z, was released in 2005. It received rave reviews from critics and made several "best albums of the year" lists. My Morning Jacket's next offering, Evil Urges, was released in June of 2008 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative rock album. In addition to their five studio albums, the band has released three live albums and three compilations. The best of their live albums is Okonokos. It was recorded at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco while the band was on their 2005 Z Tour. The group is well known for their live performances and has become a fixture at several festivals around the United States. They've played both the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Bonnaroo Music Festival. At the 2008 Bonnaroo Festival, The Jacket played nearly four hours in a set that featured Metallica's Kirk Hammett and actor Zach Galifianakis. My Morning Jacket received its name from a piece of discarded clothing. One day, James saw an abandon jacket that was embroidered with the initials "MMJ."
