At the time, Mike Epps thought it was just another show. He had no way of knowing that it would turn out to be the most important performance of his career. Epps took the stage at the nondescript comedy club and soon had them rolling in the aisles. One of the audience members that night was Ice Cube. After the set, Cube asked Epps to audition for the role of “Day Day Jones” from the film Next Friday. Epps tried out and landed the part. It wasn’t Epps first film but it did introduce him to a national audience.
Epps was born Nov. 18, 1970 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Naturally funny, Epps began doing comedy as a teenager. The funny man received his big break in 1995 when he appeared on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and in the Def Comedy Jam tour. He made his film debut in 1997 in Vin Diesel’s Strays.
Epps has a lengthy film resume that includes roles in All About the Benjamins, Friday After Next, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Extinction, The Hangover, Lottery Ticket, Sparkle, and School Dance. Epps has lent his voice to the animated films Dr. Dolittle 2 and Open Season 2.
Epps comedy is raw and very mature. He tackles a wide range of subjects, everything from popular culture to sex, and does so with unflinching courage. If you have Mike Epps tickets expect to laugh but leave your delicate sensibilities at home.
Despite being one of the comedy’s top stand-ups, Epps has only released one comedy album. Funny Bidness Da Album dropped in October of 2009. The collection peaked at nine on the Top Comedy Albums chart and contains contributions from several recording artists including Snoop Dogg, Flo Rida, and Too Short.
In June of 2014, Epps allegedly had his two-man entourage beat up fellow comedian Levar Walker outside of an Atlanta comedy club. The men not only punched and kicked Walker, they also smashed his cellphone and threw it on a roof.
Epps sicked his entourage on Walker because of jokes he made in an Instagram video. Walker was making fun of Epps because of his beef with Kevin Hart. Epps had gone on a popular radio show and called Kevin Hart overrated. Hart responded in his own Instgram video by telling Epps not to speak his name.
