When summer comes around so does the mayhem.
To be more specific, the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival comes around.
The Mayhem Festival is an annual touring festival that features heavy metal and hard rock bands. Acts that have graced the Mayhem Festival’s marquee in the past include Rob Zombie, Slayer, Korn, and Avenged Sevenfold.
The Mayhem Festival is held outside and usually last all day. Although it depends on the city and venue, doors typically open at 1:05pm. From that time until 6:30pm is what organizers call the “general admission festival.” Bands take turn performing on two stages.
Then at 6:30pm the festival moves to the main amphitheater with a pit, a lawn section, and reserved seating. This is where and when the four main acts perform.
The festival ends by 11pm.
Another feature of the festival is the sponsors and vendors area. This section does more than just push products and offer samples. They also announce times for band singings.
Most of the bands avail themselves to sign autographs for their fans.
Another way to learn about the signings is to follow the festival on Twitter (@mayhemfest).
Since the festival is held outdoors in the summer organizers implore attendees to take care of themselves. To beat the heat, you can bring into the festival sunscreen, a hat, and a sealed bottle of water.
Additionally, the festival provides shade tents and misting stations.
You can also bring in a small light backpack, a small homemade snack, camera, sharpie, and your cell phone (make sure it’s fully charged).
You CAN’T bring in a professional camera, recording devices, weapons of any kind, illegal substances, alcohol, and wallet chains.
Another attraction you’ll experience with your Mayhem Festival tickets is the motorcycle stunt team Metal Mulisha.
The festival’s official name is the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The “Rockstar Energy Drink” portion of the name refers to the festival’s sponsor. The Rockstar Energy Company has backed the festival since it first began in 2008.
The festival was founded by Kevin Lyman and John Reese, the same team that created the Taste of Chaos. Lyman also founded the Vans Warped Tour, the largest touring festival in the United States.
In 2011, the Mayhem Festival started the Metal of Honor charity program which benefits the charities The Pathway Home and Hope for Warriors. The festival also hands out “Metal of Honor” bracelets to all current military service members and veterans.
To receive a Metal of Honor bracelet all one has to do is show their military identification at the Metal of Honor tent.
