For some reason, the fact that Kiss formed in Brooklyn is surprising. Kansas seems more appropriate, somehow, or maybe New Jersey. But Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley came together in 1973, donned a load of face paint and started spitting blood and breathing fire as part of one of the most elaborate group stage personas in rock history.
The characters they created -- The Demon (Simmons), Starchild (Stanley), Spaceman (Frehley), and Catman (Criss) – were based in comic book-style theatrics and chosen by fans relative to their personalities.
