Anthony, Ivan, Michael, and Cameron are better known by their middle names: Caleb, Nathan, Jared, and Matthew. The four, each with the last name of Followill, are collectively known as Kings of Leon.

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Kings of Leon has a sound influenced by southern rock, blues, soul, gospel, and alternative music. Their first album, Youth and Young Manhood, was released in 2003. A year later, they released their sophomore effort, Aha Shake Heartbreak. Both albums struggled mightily in America.

In 2007, the band released Because of the Times which peaked on the Billboard 200 at 25. Meanwhile, across the pond, Kings of Leon were finding tremendous success. They've placed nine singles in the UK Top Forty and were awarded two BRIT Awards, the British equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

Kings of Leon finally found fame and fortune in their home country after the release of Only by the Night in September of 2008. The critically acclaimed album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum in July of 2009. The album also earned the band several Grammy Awards including Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and Best Rock Song.

Caleb, Nathan and Jared are brothers. Matthew is their cousin. The brothers grew up traveling with their father Ivan "Leon" Followill, who went from town to town in the south preaching for the United Pentecostal Church. In 1997, their mother, Betty-Ann, divorced Leon and took the boys to Nashville. It was there, with the help of composer Angelo Petraglia, that the Followill brothers began writing songs and playing music.

In a relatively short amount of time, Caleb (guitar and lead vocals) and Nathan (drums) were signed by RCA Records. However, the company demanded they recruit more members and form a band. Caleb and Nathan enlisted Jared to play bass and "kidnapped" Matthew to play guitar. When their first EP was released, Holy Roller Novocaine, Jared was just 16.
