Kevin Hart is one of the most popular and successful stand-up comedians of the 21st century. He has a personable stage persona and a high-energy act. His observational comedy is broad and relatable but very clever. His material covers numerous subjects including family, politics, race, and relationships. He exudes a lot of confidence when he’s on the mic and isn’t afraid to be self-effacing. Hart does work blue.

Nowadays, Hart can sell out any comedy club in the world but his career had an ominous beginning. In the late 1990s, while working as a shoe salesman, Hart applied his craft at various Philadelphia comedy clubs. He was frequently booed. At one point, Hart, who went by the nom de plume “Lil Kev The Bastard,” had to dodge a piece of chicken thrown by a disgruntle audience member.

Hart was trying too hard to mimic other comics. When he found his own voice, and his own style, he fortunes began to change. Soon he was winning regional comedy competitions and making a name for himself. Hart’s big break came in 2002 when he was cast on the ill-fated sitcom Undeclared. In the same year, he starred in the Roc-A-Fella film, Paper Soldiers, alongside Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z.

The comic released his first stand-up film, Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain, in 2011. His second, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, dropped in 2013. Both were incredibly successful. They are the eighth and fourth highest grossing stand-up comedy concert films of all-time.

Hart has appeared in a number of major motion pictures including Soul Plane, 35 and Ticking, Think Like a Man, Ride Along, Top Five, and Get Hard. As of 2015, Hart has hosted Saturday Night Live twice. He’s also appeared in the television shows Modern Family, Workaholics, and Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sword of Fire.

In 2013, BET debuted Hart’s Real Husbands of Hollywood. The diminutive funnyman co-created the reality parody and serves as its executive producer.

Hart was born July 6, 1979 in Philadelphia. He was raised by his mother. His father was a cocaine addict who spent much of Hart’s childhood in jail. Hart was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in April of 2013. He received three years’ probation.
