About Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber was discovered on YouTube. Record executive Scooter Braun saw his posts, became his manager, and flew him to Atlanta to meet with Usher. A deal with Island Records followed and the young Canadian lad was on his way to stardom.
Bieber's team tested the waters by releasing four singles prior to the full album. “One Time” (which features guest vocals by Usher), “One Less Lonely Girl,” “Love Me,” and “Favorite Girl” all made the Top 15 in Canada and the Top 40 in the U.S. That accomplishment made him the first artist ever to achieve such pre-album success.
The first part of his two-piece record set, My World, hit streets in November, 2009 to favorable reviews and a number six spot on the Billboard album charts and a top seat on the Canadian album ranking. The record went platinum in the U.S. in less than two months, and half that time in Canada.
MuchMusic dubbed him Newcomer of the Year, while J-14 crowned him as the hottest star of 2009. Celebuzz also tagged him as one of the top 10 YouTube stars of the decade. All of this while Bieber was at the ripe young age of 15.
When he was 12, Bieber entered a local singing competition in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario. He also taught himself how to play piano, trumpet, drums, and guitar. In late 2007, Beiber's mom wanted to share his performances with family members who couldn't attend and so she took to posting clips on YouTube of Justin singing tunes by Usher, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, and others.
That's where Braun found him and started making connections. Braun got Bieber in front of Usher who got him in front of L.A. Reid who signed him to Island Records in October, 2008. Timberlake allegedly wanted to sign him, as well, but lost out to the Usher/Reid team at Island.
Since then, Bieber has performed on numerous TV shows including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, for President Barack Obama at the Christmas in Washington event, and on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. He has also toured to support his debut, including partnering with Taylor Swift for some dates, and participated in the “We Are the World” remake which benefited Haiti.
My World 2.0 saw daylight in March, 2010 led by the “Baby” single in January and supported by his first headlining concert tour, along with some dates opening for Swift.
