About the Band JourneyJourney has been just that for all of the various members involved over the years. Only guitarist Neal Schon has been in the group since its founding in 1973. The original line-up consisted of Schon with bassist Ross Valory, drummer Prairie Prince, and guitarist George Tickner. Keyboardist/singer Gregg Rolie was also an early signatory. Together, they made the band's eponymous 1975 debut and two more records. Two years later, Steve Perry was recruited as lead singer for Journey's fourth effort, Infinity. By the end of 1978, the record had gone platinum. Two drummer changes had also happened with Steve Smith now filling the seat. The subsequent two albums – 1979's Evolution and 1980's Departure – both did solid business. After the latter, Rolie took his leave to be replaced by Jonathan Cain. A live album, 1981's Captured, followed. All of that was well and good, but it would be Escape that would really send Journey into the stratosphere. Three Top 10 songs later -- "Who's Crying Now," "Don't Stop Believin'," and "Open Arms" – the set was at the top of the charts and selling millions of copies. Its successor, Frontiers, dropped in 1983 and yielded another big hit in "Separate Ways." Perry followed that up with a solo project that also entered double-platinum territory, 1984's Street Talk. For Journey's next outing, Raised on Radio (1986), Valory and Smith were dropped, leaving only Schon, Cain, and Perry supported by side players for the accompanyin tour. The trek would be the end of an era as Journey broke up at the end of the run. A Journey reunion came in 1996 and included Schon, Perry, Cain, Smith, and Valory for Trial by Fire. The single "When You Love a Woman" did well enough and the band hit the road together. After the rout, both Perry and Smith went their own separate ways, leaving the other members to carry on without them. Vocalist Steve Augeri and drummer Deen Castronovo joined the team for "Remember Me," a cut off the Armageddon soundtrack in 1998. It would be another three years before Journey would be back in action on Arrival and its supporting tour. Another four years would go by before the band released Generations in honor of their 30th anniversary. The tour featured a three-hour show split into two sets based on the various stages of Journey – pre-Escape and post-Escape. In 2006, the CD/DVD set Live in Houston 1981: The Escape Tour was issued and Jeff Scott Soto replaced Augeri, but only lasted a year. Arnel Pineda was the next recruit, coming in 2008 for Revelation, the band's 11th platinum album. Helping the Journey resurgence along, their iconic song “Don't Stop Believin'” was also featured in Broadway's Rock of Ages musical and on television's hit show Glee.
