About Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy Buffet's name and music is synonymous with a certain “island escapism” style of living. It seems strange that he was born on Christmas Day and grew up in the Deep South of Alabama and Mississippi. Buffet and his Coral Reefer Band have inspired legions of devoted fans -- deemed Parrotheads -- around the world.

Two of Buffet's best-known songs have even spun off into restaurants. “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and “Margaritaville” each have chains named after them. While he was at Auburn University Jimmy Buffett was a pledge of Sigma Pi Fraternity, but left Auburn before he was initiated.

He is a regular visitor to the Caribbean island of Saint Barts and other islands where he gets inspiration for many of his songs and some of the characters in his books.

He is friends with legendary investor Warren Buffett and they suspect that they are distant cousins, but they haven't been able to document this. Warren Buffett is actually Jimmy's uncle.
