Jim Messina might not be a household name but he has a long and illustrious career that spans more than 45 years. He was a member of Buffalo Springfield. He played bass and sang on their final album, Last Time Around (1968). After Buffalo Springfield broke up, Messina formed Poco with Richie Furay and Rusty Young.
Poco were pioneers of a then new genre of music called "country rock." We'd now call it "Americana." As if that wasn't enough, he teamed with Kenny Loggins to form Loggins and Messina. The duo created a bunch of amazing music including "Your Mama Don't Dance," "House at Pooh Corner," and "Angry Eyes." Messina released his first solo album in 1979 and his sixth in 2009.
As a solo artist, Messina has dabbled in everything from rock to country to folk to jazz to Latin. Even though he's firmly in his 60s, the guitarist still sells Jim Messina tickets on a regular basis. When he's not making or producing music he's a fine artist. Messina paints with watercolors and acrylics, builds furniture, and welds metal.
