Jason Aldean Bio
Growing up in Macon, Georgia, young Jason Aldine Williams (known popularly as Jason Aldean) learned how to play guitar from his father who would draw chords on a piece of paper as a way for Jason to practice with. Once proficient with the basics, Jason set out to play songs by ear. He listened to albums by Alabama, Hank Williams, Jr., and George Strait and learned their songs through trial and error.
Born on February 28, 1977, Jason figured out that music was his future when he was only 14. The realization came after a performance at the VFW Hall in Macon. Within a year, Jason signed on with the house band at Nashville South, a popular bar in Macon.
By the time he was out of high school, Jason had his own band and was hitting the college circuit throughout the Southeast United States. Once again, his father gave him a helping hand with setting up the gigs and other arrangements.
A 1998 performance of in Atlanta at The Buckboard showcased Jason's talent as a songwriter. The showing was impressive enough to land him a deal with Warner/Chappell Music, a publishing company in Nashville, Tennessee. Only 21 years old, Aldean relocated to Music City and got started on his career in earnest.
The brisk start was not without a few fits. Two recording contracts both fizzled, though one of many shows at The Wildhorse Saloon landed him a manager. Time and again, talent scouts failed him, leaving Aldean in a lurch with a six-month, self-imposed deadline hanging over him. He'd set a goal to land a deal or go back to Georgia, and he was damn well going to meet it. Sure enough, the third deal was the charm coming within five weeks.
It was the independent Broken Bow Records that signed the up-and-comer, releasing his self-titled debut in 2005. The first cut, “Hicktown,” came out early that year and made its way up to the number 10 spot on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Two more tracks – the chart-topping “Why” and the number four “Amarillo Sky” - helped the album go platinum.
The Academy of Country Music saw fit to anoint Aldean as Top New Male Vocalist in 2006 with “Amarillo Sky” being further nominated for both song and video of the year.
Aldean spent early 2007 in the studio working on his follow-up album. Relentless dropped in May of that year and did well enough, but failed to match the success of its predecessor. The first single, “Johnny Cash,” peaked at number six on the country charts with the next cut, “Laughed Until We Cried,” also cracking the Top 10 as his fifth consecutive single to do so. That streak ended when the album's title track missed the mark. On the whole, Relentless only achieved gold-selling status.
In 2009, Aldean came back with something of a vengeance with Wide Open. The set's first single, “She's Country,” dropped in December of 2008 and made it to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The song even found its way into the Top 40 of Billboard's Hot 100 pop chart. The second track, "Big Green Tractor," also hit the top of the country chart.
Thanks to the strong lead in, Wide Open entered the country album charts at number two upon its release in April of 2009. "The Truth," the third single, piled on as yet another chart-topping track.
While promoting Wide Open, Aldean was featured alongside Bryan Adams on a episode of Country Music Television's Crossroads. He also got to work with Alabama's Randy Owen on the record, a career highlight for the emerging artist.
With a big summer tour in support of the record, Aldean also film the live concert DVD, Wide Open Live & More, which was released in August of 2009.
For his fourth outing, Aldean tested the waters in August 2010 with the “My Kinda Party” single which became his 10th top 10 hit on the country chart. His My Kinda Party album followed in November.
The album also features a duet with Kelly Clarkson, “Don't You Wanna Stay.” The cut was hugely popular -- despite not being an official single -- that it found its was onto the radio and up to the top of the chart becoming his fifth number one song.
"Dirt Road Anthem" was next in line to hit number one. A performance of the tune with Ludacris at the 2011 CMT Music Awards may also have helped the song crossover to the Hot 100 where it became Aldean's first top 10 pop hit.
