About the Band Hinder

Hinder is a hard rock, glam metal band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The band features singer Austin Winkler, lead guitarist Joe Garvey, drummer Cody Hanson, rhythm guitarist Mark King, and bassist Mike Rodden. From 2005 to 2010, Hinder released three albums: Extreme Behavior (2005), Take It to the Limit (2008), and All American Nightmare (2010).

The band's biggest single is the power ballad "Lips of An Angel" from Extreme Behavior. The single peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and went to number one in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Hinder's other major singles include "Better Than Men," "Get Stoned," and "Use Me." The group was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2007.

Soon after meeting at a college party in Oklahoma City, Winkler, Hanson, and Garvey began performing together at a local club. The trio, which was acquiring quite a fan-following, used these early gigs to promote themselves and to fund an EP called Far From Close. The band released that EP in 2003 and it went on to sell about 5,000 copies—not bad for an independent, regional release.

The success of Far From Close landed Hinder a recording contract with Universal Records in 2005. It was also at this time that Rodden and King joined the band. Months after signing their contract, Hinder released its first studio album, Extreme Behavior. The album peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 and was certified 3x Platinum in January of 2008.

Hinder tickets have been sold for a number of tours including outings to support each one of their studio releases. They've also toured with a number of well-known bands like Motley Crue, Nickelback, Buckcherry, 3 Doors Down, Papa Roach, and Saving Abel. Hinder also performed at the NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2011 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In December of 2007, after leaving his engagement party, Winkler was arrested in Jonesboro, Arkansas on DUI chargers. During a sobriety test, Winkler blew a .016—twice the legal limit in Arkansas. That summer, Winkler married model Jami Miller. The couple met on the set of Hinder's music video for "Born to be Wild."
