Fall Out Boy (commonly abbreviated as FOB) is an emo-pop-punk band that rose to prominence in the mid-2000s.
Vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, drummer Andrew Hurley and guitarist Joe Throhman came together in Wilmette, Illinois, located 14 miles north of Chicago.
After struggling with a few indie releases, but gaining a following for their live shows, Fall Out Boy broke out in 2005 with the release of From Under The Cork Tree. See FOB live in Lowell, MA.
The album reached the top ten of Billboard’s album chart and produced two top ten singles, “Sugar We're Going Down” and “Dance, Dance.” From Under The Cork Tree eventually went double platinum.
The foursome’s next album, Infinity On High, was released in February of 2007. The album debuted at number one and went platinum just one month after it was released.
To promote the album, Wentz launched a viral internet campaign. The campaign featured a fictional organization known as “Citizens For Our Betterment” hacking into the website of their record label. In 2008, FOB released a CD/DVD package Live In Phoenix and another studio album, Folie à Deux.
The band takes their name from The Simpsons’ character “Fallout Boy”, side kick to Radioactive Man. While Fallout Boy has only appeared in a few Simpsons episodes, he does have a catch phrase, “Jiminy jillickers!”
