About Eric Church
Don’t let the name fool you. Eric Church is no choir boy. He’s a bona fide, certified country music rebel. With songs like “Drink in My Hand,” “Smoke a Little Smoke,” and “Hungover and Hard Up,” Church embodies just about every honky tonk cliché in the book but does so in a way that’s sincere and refreshing. Eric Church concerts and albums are much more than just reasons to drink beer and party. His catalog of music is contemplative, reflective, and at times quite sophisticated. Church maybe an outlaw but he’s an outlaw with wit and soul.
Kenneth Eric Church was born May 3, 1977 in Granite Falls, North Carolina. He began playing guitar at the age of 13 and by the time he was in high school he was playing Jimmy Buffett songs at local watering holes. After high school, Church attended Appalachian State University and ultimately graduated with a degree in marketing (like all good rebels do). After getting his diploma, he found himself engaged to be married and on the verge of entering the corporate world. Realizing that wasn’t for him, Church broke off the engagement and moved to Nashville.
Once in Music City, he began working as a songwriter. His composition “The World Needs a Drink,” which he wrote with Casey Beathard, was a top 30 hit on the country music charts for singer Terri Clark. Church struggled to get a recording contract as executives thought his music was a bit bland. That all changed when Church teamed with record producer Jay Joyce. Thanks to Joyce’s tutelage, Church was able to land one of those coveted recording contract.
Church released his first single, “How ‘Bout You” in early 2006. His debut studio album, Sinners Like Me, dropped on July 18, 2006. The release went to number seven on the country music album charts and was eventually certified gold. Besides the title track, his debut album contains the tracks “Two Pink Lines,” “Guys Like Me,” and “Pledge Allegiance To The Hag” featuring Merle Haggard.
There was no sophomore slump for Church as his second album, Carolina, came out in the spring of 2009 and peaked at number four on the country music charts and number 17 on the Billboard 200. His third album was 2011’s Chief. Like his first two releases, it was produced by Joyce. Chief produced four singles with two going to number one: “Drink in My Hand” and “Springsteen.” The critically acclaimed opus has been certified Platinum and earned Church a Grammy Award nomination for Best Country Album.
The success of Chief allowed Church to launch his very first headlining arena tour. The trek, called The Blood, Sweat & Beers Tour, kicked off Jan. 19 in Arkansas. Besides being a successful recording artist, Church is also one of country music’s best live acts. Fans with Eric Church tickets are never disappointed.
The outlaw was once a singer-songwriter with a cult-like following, but through hard work and word-of-mouth, was able to expand his fan base exponentially in a rather short amount of time. It took Church just three albums to become one of country music’s biggest stars.
