The singer would later say that they could have named the band anything but using his family appellation capitalized on his recent success and name recognition. Daughtry includes vocalist Chris Daughtry, lead guitarist Josh Steely, rhythm guitarist Brian Craddock, bassist Josh Paul, and drummer Robin Diaz. Former members include guitarist Jeremy Brady and drummer Joey Barnes. The band released their self-title debut in 2006. It was an unmitigated success. The album spent two weeks on top of the Billboard 200 and greatly outsold the initial release of the American Idol winner from that year, Taylor Hicks. Daughtry’s debut would eventually be named the top selling album of 2007 and the fastest selling debut by a rock band since Soundscan started tracking sales data back in March of 1991. Singles “It’s Not Over” and “Home” were two of the most played songs in the United States in 2007. The band’s amazing debut was produced by Howard Benson and featured a guest appearance by former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash. When it was all said and done, seven tracks from Daughtry’s premiere were released as singles and all but two charted inside the top 25. The band issued their sophomore effort, Leave This Town, in 2009. Like their previous offering, Leave This Town went to number one. The opus produced three Top 40 singles: “No Surprise,” “Life After You” and “September.” The band’s third album, Break the Spell, dropped in 2011. It peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200. A Daughtry tour was launched in 2007 and it kept the band on the road for several years. They not only performed in the United States but all over the world; Daughtry tickets have been sold in Germany, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. The band has toured with quite a few notable rock bands including Bon Jovi and Nickelback. As far as performing at big time sporting events, Daughtry has appeared at NASCAR’s Chevy Rock and Roll 400, the 2007 Indianapolis 500, and during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys-Oakland Raiders game on Thanksgiving Day 2009.
