Chelsea Handler is best known as the host of the talk show Chelsea Lately seen on the E! Cable Television Network. She's also a successful stand-up comedian, author, and actress.
Handler was born on February 25, 1975 in Livingston, New Jersey. She's the youngest of six children and was raised in what she calls a nice neighborhood. However, Handler once joked to a reporter that all her neighbors drove Mercedes while her family rode around in a Pinto.
Her success as a stand-up comedienne led to The Chelsea Handler Show on E! It debuted in 2006. The sketch comedy show aired for only two seasons. After it was canceled, Handler moved on to a talk show format, Chelsea Lately. That show premiered in July of 2007.
Apart from her television work with E!, Handler has also co-hosted The View, been a correspondent for The Tonight Show, and appeared as a celebrity player on CBS' Million Dollar Password. In 2007, after just one episode, Handler quit her hosting duties on the reality show, "On the Lot." Handler said she left the show "because I smelled the disaster happening before it did." In 2008, she declined an invitation to appear on Dancing with the Stars. Handler's other television appearances include Scarborough Country, The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice, My Wife and Kids, and Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld.
As of 2010, Handler has written three books: My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands (2005), Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea (2008), and Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang (2010). She also has her own columns in the magazines Cosmopolitan and NOW. Her literary career doesn't end there though. In 2009, Handler was seen on the alternative cover of the December edition of Playboy Magazine. Inside she was featured in a non-nude pictorial.
Part of Handler's success may be due to the company she keeps. Although the relationship ended in January of 2010, Handler lived with business man Ted Harbert for three years. Harbert is the CEO of Comcast Entertainment, the company that owns E!
