Avicii is one of the world’s best DJs. When he’s not spinning electronic dance music he’s remixing and producer. Avicii (sometimes written as AVICII) is the stage name of Tim Bergling. Bergling was born Sept. 8, 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Avicii released his first single in 2008 and his first album, True, in 2013. His first big release was 2010’s “Seek Bromance.” The single went to number one in Belgium, number 16 in Sweden, and number 13 in the United Kingdom.
Avicii finished 2010 as the 39th entry on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs. He’d find himself in the top ten for the next four years, reaching number three in 2012 and 2013.
Over the years, Bergling has sold Avicii tickets at venues all over the globe. That includes performances at the Ultra Music Festival, Lollapalooza, the Future Music Festival, and a tour of South America.
He has also worked with a number of big time artists including Madonna, Jon Bon Jovi (from Bon Jovi), Lenny Kravitz, Chris Martin (from Coldplay), David Guetta, Serj Tankian, Matisyahu, Eric Turner, Mike Posner, and Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson from ABBA.
in 2014, Avicii worked with Wyclef Jean, Alexandre Pires, and Carlos Santana to write “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find a Way),”the official FIFA World Cup Anthem.
In 2011, Avicii and his manager started a charity called House for Hunger. The non-profit is dedicated to eliminating world hunger. The organization has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to major hunger fighting charities.
Why is a song sampled?
Is it because the artist hears something or is it because the song has an unforgettable hook? One of Avicii’s first big hits was “Levels.” It contains a sample from Etta James’ “Something’s Got a Hold on Me.” The same sample was used in the 2006 Pretty Lights’ song “Finally Moving,” the 2006 Logistics’ tune “Call Me Back,” and the 2011 Flo Rida’s groove “Good Feeling.”
In 2011, Leona Lewis sampled Avicii’s “Fade into Darkness” and used it in her single “Collide.” She forgot to credit Avicii. This did not sit well with the Swedish DJ who tried to kill the single. Cooler heads prevailed and the two artists settled their differences out of court.
Avicii has over two million Facebook followers.
Avicii has received two Grammy Award nominations both for Best Dance Recording.
