The group first played together in a basement of a barbership in Quincy Massachusetts. They cite their major influences as The Clash, AC/DVC, The Swinging Utters, Stiff Little Fingers and The Pogues. The Dropkick Murphys were originally formed in 1996 and put out a series of EPs before being signed with Hellcat Records. Their first full length album (Do or Die) was released in 1998.
