About Aaron Lewis

The thought of a New England rocker making a country record isn't one that most people would come to naturally. That's the story of Aaron Lewis, though.

Born in Vermont and raised in Massachusetts, Lewis founded Staind in 1995 after dabbling around with a solo acoustic act. The post-grunge band that was Staind couldn't have been more different, although the Lewis lyrical contributions were always contemplative, if not confessional.

Following their 1996 debut with Tormented, Staind released Dysfunction (1999), Break the Cycle (2001), 14 Shades of Grey (2003), Chapter V (2005), The Illusion of Progress (2008), and Staind (2011).

Staind's stint on the Family Values Tour in 1999 included a live duet between Lewis and Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst on “Outside.” The song broke the band through on alternative radio and they haven't let up since. Along the way, Lewis won accolades from Hit Parader, coming in at number 49 on their list of Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists.

Despite his dedication to Staind, Lewis has always pursued outside projects. Some of his guest appearances include Limp Bizkit's "No Sex," a remix of Linkin Park's "Crawling," Sevendust's “Follow” and Animosity album, Jimmie's Chicken Shack's "Falling Out," and Cold's 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage album.

In 2010, Lewis took to the studio to make a country EP. His Town Line dropped in March of 2011. Of the collection's seven songs, three are different versions of "Country Boy," one featuring George Jones, another boasting Charlie Daniels, and the third including Chris Young. The four remaining tracks are "Massachusetts," "Vicious Circles," "The Story Never Ends," and a Lewis rendition of Staind's"Tangled Up in You."

Lewis credits his grandfather with instilling a love for country music in him as a boy and a tour with Kid Rock for reminding him of that love.

As part of the Town Line promo blitz Lewis teamed with Corey Taylor for a night of acoustic duets that included tunes like Pearl Jam's "Black," Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb," and Alice In Chains' "Down in a Hole."

Lewis has a love for Gibson guitars and his collection includes a 1950 Gibson Acoustic J-45, a 1951 Gibson Acoustic Southern Jumbo, a 1936 Gibson Acoustic Jumbo J-35, a 1956 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top, a 1968 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top, and at least five 1980s' Gibson Heritage Series Les Pauls.
