| About Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift was 16-years-old when her debut single “Tim McGraw” was released. Since then Swift has been selling records and setting records. She’s already become one of the most successful artists of the decade.
Her self-titled debut album was released in 2006. The country-pop album not only went triple platinum, but it produced a record five consecutive top 10 hit singles on the Billboard country chart.
Swift’s success was awarded with a Grammy nomination for best new artist, but she eventually lost to Amy Winehouse.
In the summer 2008, Swift released an EP called Beautiful Eyes, which could only be purchased at Wal-Mart.
The EP debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. For the same week, her debut album was number two on the same chart. This made Swift the first artists to hold the top two positions on the Top Country Album Chart since her idol, LeAnn Rimes, did it in 1997.
Her sophomore effort, Fearless, was released in 2008. Highlighting her transition from a country-pop artist to a pop artist, her album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and eventually spent eight weeks at the top spot.
According to industry experts, Swift was the number one selling artist in America for 2008. She’s also the first country artist to reach the two million mark in paid downloads for three songs.
A child prodigy, Swift’s parents moved her to Nashville from her native Pennsylvania when she was 14-years-old. At 15, Swift turned down a deal with RCA Records because the company would not allow her to record her own songs.
Shortly after that, a record executive from burgeoning Big Machine Records saw her performed at the famous Bluebird Café and signed her to a deal.
When Swift was 11-years-old she sang the National Anthem at Philadelphia 76ers game. When she was 12-years-old she sang the National Anthem at the U.S. Open.
Swift’s grandmother was a professional opera singer.
