About Eddie VedderEddie Vedder rose to fame as the lead singer of one of the seminal alternative rock bands of the 1990's, Pearl Jam. Despite being rather diminutive (Vedder is only 5-feet 7-inches tall), he has one of the most powerful voices in rock music. In 1990, while floundering to make it in the Southern California music business, Vedder was presented with a demo tape from a band in Seattle, Washington that was looking for a lead singer. After hearing the tape, Vedder wrote and recorded lyrics to three of the songs and then sent the tape back to the band in the Seattle. After hearing Vedder's vocals on the tape, the band invited Vedder to the Emerald City for an audition. He got the gig and Pearl Jam was formed. The band signed with a record label later that year and Pearl Jam's debut album, Ten, came out in August of 1991. Those three demo tracks Vedder worked on became "Alive," "Once," and "Footsteps." The first two songs appear on the Ten album. As a solo artist, the majority of Vedder's work is contributions to the music of other artists and movie soundtracks. In fact, Vedder's first album was the soundtrack to the film Into The Wild (2007). Vedder's second album, Ukulele Songs, was released in May of 2011. The opus contains Vedder performing original songs and covers on the ukulele.
