About Aerosmith

Aerosmith is one of those bands with a guaranteed spot in rock and roll history. Dubbed “The Bad Boys from Boston” this rock outfit is considered many to be the greatest band in the history of rock. The band’s music is a mixture of pop, hard rock and heavy metal, with a string of hit albums that have earned the band numerous awards over their more than 40 year history.

Formed in 1970 in Boston, MA, Aerosmith’s original line-up consisted of guitarist Joe Perry, lead singer Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer and guitarist Ray Tabano, who was quickly replaced by Brad Whitford. The group got their big break in 1972, when they were signed to Colombia Records. After releasing several hit records throughout the decade, they became one of the biggest musical artists in the world.

Throughout the late 70s and early 80s, the group toured constantly and partied hard. As a result of frequent drug abuse and problems between group members, the band lost Whitford and Perry, who is still hailed as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. After a brief stint without the two, Perry and Whitford returned to Aerosmith. Other group members sobered up and Aerosmith released a comeback record that further cemented the group into the heart’s of America. “Permanent Vacation” easily matched the success the group attained in the 70s and they have been going strong ever since.

Aerosmith has sold 150 million records around the world, with 66.5 million in the U.S. They are the top-selling U.S. hard-rock band of all time. The group also holds the record for the most amounts of gold and multi-platinum albums from an American band. They have 21 Top 40 Billboard hits, four Grammy awards, ten MTV Video Music Awards and have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As recent as 2005, Aerosmith held the No. 57 spot in the Rolling Stone Top 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
